Through videos, photographs and written instructions, students will learn each subject step-by-step with the help of an accomplished instructor.

After registration you’ll receive access to a web page that has all of the class video lessons listed as well as a supply list and a video on how to set up your work space for encaustic painting. You may find that you already have many of the tools needed, or that you can use typical household items in place of traditional encaustic tools. Whenever possible we’ll give you tips on how to save money and resources for finding unusual or unique items.

Here’s what to expect:

  • All videos are available immediately so you can work at your own pace.
  • Your purchase gives you six months of access to the videos starting the moment you purchase the class.
  • The class includes an online forum where you can chat with the instructor and other students, share photos of your work in progress and post finished work.
  • The instructor will answer forum questions several times daily for the first 7 days of each month.
  • You’ll also benefit from discussions with all of the other students throughout the duration of the class.

Frequently Asked Questions

If your questions are not answered here, just drop us an email at waxx@lindawomack.com and we will get back to you quickly with the answer.

Who can participate?

Anyone can take an all level class. No art experience is necessary and you’ll quickly find that encaustic is one of the most forgiving mediums around. Even if you have some experience working with encaustic you’ll still find lots of time saving tips that make the class well worth it, plus you get the bonus of having your questions answered by an expert. If you’ve already taken a basic encaustic class online or in person you can jump right into our intermediate level classes, just keep in mind that we won’t go over the basics there for you so it’s best to start with the basics if you’re not sure.

When do we get to see the class site?

Once you purchase a class you will be asked to complete registration on our web site and log in. After logging in you will have immediate access to your class.

Do I have to wait each day to see a new video?

Absolutely not! Once your class starts, there’s no waiting. All videos will be available for viewing from the first day, but you can watch them one day at a time depending on how you prefer to learn.

How can I chat with the other students?

Each class has a special page for comments by students and the instructor. That means you don’t have to hunt for messages to find what you want on the subject. First, log into with your username and password which will take you to a list of the classes you have purchased.  Choose the class you want to comment on and scroll down to the last lesson in that class called  ”Ask Questions and Share Your Work Here”.  Scroll all the way to the bottom and type your question or comment in the “Leave a Comment” box and it will be posted to the class site for everyone to see. You may also subscribe to the comments page to be notified by email when a new comment is posted.

Will I be able to share pictures of my work with the class?

Absolutely! You can share on the class’s discussion page by posting a link to your photograph from your blog, web site or on a service like Flickr you’ll be able to share your work with the rest of the class and hear their comments and suggestions. Get a free Flickr account.

How much instructor interaction is there?

Your instructor will be checking the comments in each class lesson daily during the first 7 days of each month and will respond with clarification, tips, and resources. There are always questions with any new technique and we’ll be there to help you answer them. You’ll also benefit from interacting with the other students who can offer insight, encouragement and feedback.

I’m worried that my computer won’t be able to play the videos. How can I test it?

No worries. If you can see the video on our home page, you’ll be able to watch the class videos because they use the same mechanism. Additionally, visit our Getting Started page to view a full-sized 960 x 540 video on how to set up your encaustic workstation. As long as you can also see that video you should be all set!

Will your videos work on my iPad?

It’s your lucky day. We gave mobile devices special attention when designing our delivery platform. After a lot of testing, we’re pleased to say that Womack Workshops’ videos and iPads go together like peas and carrots. Unless you’ve got super-human vision, you might not want to try and take the lessons on your tiny iPhone, though.

I’m having trouble playing the video. What can I do?

You may just need to give the video time to download and buffer. First try hitting the pause button and waiting a minute (or depending on your computer go get a cup of tea). You can also mouse over the video and click the blue HD logo to turn off high-definition which will deliver a smaller file.

Why don’t you just make a DVD?

We think our classes are superior to static media like DVDs. With online learning, you not only get access to the same high-quality HD video lessons you’d get on disk, but also have the bonus of interacting one-on-one with an instructor and with the larger community of artists who share your interest in the medium. The result combines the immediacy of watching over an instructor’s shoulder as she teaches with the fun of sharing your discoveries with a group of like-minded friends.

What is your cancellation policy?

Once you purchase a class the lessons are instantly available so there can be no refunds. See the Terms and Conditions page for more information on our policies.
