Tame your paint! Even if you have experience with encaustic you’ll benefit from being able to really control your paint. Learn how to apply wax for a smooth finish, but also how to add texture where you want it. We’ll use brush techniques to build up some sections and specialty tools to remove others, plus I’ll show you how you can break (or at least bend) the “fuse-every-layer” rule. We’ll start with a quick painting exercise to practice the critical fusing techniques using a heat gun and especially how to keep the wax where you want it. Later we’ll move on to techniques involving scraping, layering, and incising lines using wax in an assortment of vivid colors.
What we’ll cover: Preparing your board with encaustic medium, fusing with a heat gun, layering paint, incising and filling lines, adding texture with screening and lace, controlling the paint, painting on the hot palette, cleaning brushes and more.
