| Instructor: Linda Womack Price: $49 USD Prerequisite: Encaustic Collage, Controlling Encaustic Paint & Adding Texture or equivalent experience. Note: This is an intermediate class that builds upon basic encaustic painting and fusing skills. Basic skills will not be covered in this class. |
No experience is necessary for this quick start wax class, but even those with some experience will benefit from learning how to really control your paint.
We’ll start with a quick painting exercise to practice the basic fusing techniques using a heat gun and especially how to keep the wax where you want it. Later we’ll move on to techniques involving scraping, layering, and incising lines using wax in an assortment of vivid colors.
You’ll learn how to lay down the wax without air bubbles and get a smooth finish but I’ll also show you how to add texture to your paintings. You can build up texture by painting through different materials onto your wax, using brush techniques to build up sections of your surface and specialty tools to remove others. I’ll teach you the equivalent of a dry brush technique using wax to build texture and show you how you can break (or at least bend) the “fuse-every-layer” rule.
What we’ll cover:
- Preparing your board with encaustic medium
- Fusing with a heat gun
- Layering paint
- Incising and filling lines
- Adding texture
- Controlling the paint
- Painting on the hot palette
- Cleaning brushes
