No painting or drawing experience is necessary for this encaustic collage class, but even those with some experience will benefit from the tips, tricks and resources shared in this class. You’ll be amazed at how simple it is to collage with wax instead of glue to incorporate papers, photographs and dried plants. The wax is applied hot, and then reheated to fuse the layers together. We’ll start fusing using a heat gun, but the use of an iron will also be covered. Don’t worry if you haven’t tried anything like this before, the medium is very forgiving so you can “undo” just about anything you try.
What we’ll cover:
- Basic Encaustic Materials
- Choosing a Substrate
- Preparing the Surface
- Painting with Wax
- Choosing the Right Paper
- Working with Computer Paper
- Working with Thin Paper
- Cleaning Your Workspace
- Working with Art Papers
- Repairing Air Bubbles
- Sealing Your Materials
- Adding Text
- Removing Collage Materials
- Adding Dried Plants
